The patron word refers to that person, to have sufficient financial resources, taking under his protection to an artist or scientist to enable it to perform its task and benefit from it in some more or less direct way. The patronage is the establishment of this bond that could, in certain respects, be compared to the relationship of vassalage that existed in the middle ages.
