It is the spectrum of the sunlight that is still below the color red, which has higher wavelength but is not visible to our eyes. The infrared field is important because it can reveal data of a body even if we cannot see it, as for example its temperature. That is why infrared lenses, we can see the silhouette give an animal in the dark.
