Latin dignitas dignitatis, merit, greatness, prestige, virtue, worth and is of dignus - a - um, worthy, valuable, virtuous. This value inherent in every human being is a contribution of Christianity to our culture, although originally based it on divine sonship. Now our secular culture although it is Christian and Greek roots based is the rationality and in human consciousness: we are the only beings rational, conscious of what surrounds us and ourselves and that free, autonomous, creators of our own destiny and responsible for our acts. This value is inalienable, like all human rights, and is collected in all democratic constitutions and universal declarations of rights.
