apopteia is incorrectly written, and should be written as "epopteia" being its meaning: Epopteia is a Greek word ( epopteia epopteias ) that means contemplation, the highest level in the alteration of consciousness achieved among the initiates into the mysteries of Eleusis and Delphi: we have little information about what was happening in these festivals of classical Greece in honour of gods as Dionysus, Demeter and her daughter Persephone. It seems that they had a relationship with sexuality and were ritualized. All the participants committed themselves to secrecy about what was happening there. It is very likely that they would take any substance sicoactiva which was the trigger for the psychic alteration; It may be cannabis, or ergot of rye or the henbane, or the jimsonweed or a mixture controlled by the priests. We have no news of deaths in these mysteries, but of course, everything was happening in secret. Also at Delphi the pythoness or Pythia, making predictions and took care of anyone who was the Oracle for answers about the future it seems that psychoactive plants reaching the trance through: it constantly chewed laurel that has very small amounts of cyanide and inhaling the smoke of plants, perhaps with incense or jimsonweed henbane or other plants.
