Word of Greek origin, like much of the medical terms, ( privative prefix a:: no, without and basis baseos: March. It is therefore the inability to walk due to a lack of coordination of the muscles. It is sometimes accompanied by the astasia or inability to stand in an upright position. The ultimate cause of these diseases is in the brain, by accident or deterioration of the brain areas that control these muscles.
