gurupa
  9

In Puerto Rico, Gurupa is the piece that is tied or interwoven to the rig (a single piece with the rig) that is placed under the tail of a horse, mare, donkey, donkey, etc. to prevent the mount from sliding to the front when there are downhills on the trails. This piece is made with a rope which is "upholstered" with some cloth or other soft material so that it does not hurt the beast when it surrounds under its tail in the form of a lasso.
