Almuñécar is the name of a city and municipality in the province of Granada (autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain). It has its origin in the Arabic voice 1581; 1589; 1606; 1575; 1604; 1605; 1606; 1603; 1617; 1585; (jisn al-munkar "isolated fortress") because it was surrounded by mountains. Its demonym is almuñequero, although it is also used sexitano by its old name Sexi.
