ghana
  12

The Republic of Ghana is an African country that in its colonial era was known as Gold Coast. The name comes from the ancient Ghana Empire, which was how Arabs and then Europeans called the territory Wagadu, because in the Soninko language 'Ghana' (gjanna) was the title of their 'warrior king'. Still, it is an honorific name, because this kingdom did not occupy the territory of the Gold Coast.
