-gate
  9

In principle gate means "entrance, portal, entrance", and is a compositional element in several proper names. But since the political scandal of the so-called 'Watergate case' for which US President Richard Nixon resigned, the suffix '-gate' was used as an "affair, scandal" in any corruption case discovered by the press or other means of dissemination.
