It is the name of an alkaloid that is obtained from the plants of the genus Policarpus (they are known as jaborandi, jamborandi), of the Family Rutaceae. It has pharmacological uses to increase sweating and salivation (diaphoretic and sialagogo). It belongs to a class of medications called cholinergic agonists.
