Name of a territory and a culture made up of several pre-Armenian peoples in a region near Lake Van. They are currently from the Hakkari and Tunceli provinces of Turkey. It is also usually called Nairi, Nahri, Nari or Nihriya. The word is of Akkadian origin. It can mean land of canyons and rivers or land of very abrupt relief, of large hollows.
