Poisonous plant of the asteraceae family native to the eastern USA also known as white serpentaria, white snakeroot, white snake root. Its tremetol toxin causes milk disease in herbivores and is also transmitted in the consumption of their contaminated milk and meat. It is known that Abraham Lincoln's mother died of this cause in the first quarter of the nineteenth century when the future president was still a nine-year-old child.
