It is the name of a Mexican municipality in the State of Mexico. The word Coacalco is of Nahuatl origin and means "In the House of the Serpent". It is a compound word that is formed with coatl, meaning snake, calli (house) and co, a locative (en). The official name of this municipality is Coacalco de Barriozábal, named in honor of General Felipe Benicio Berriozábal Basabe, a Mexican engineer, politician and military officer who participated in the War of Reform and collaborated in the governments of Benito Juárez and Porfirio Díaz. The municipal seat is called San Francisco de Coacalco.
