1º_ It is said of the aroma , the smell generally pleasant; for this reason it was called eau de parfum ("perfume water", in French) to a cosmetic with aromas of personal use with 20% of essence and 80% of alcohol. The word has its origin in the Latin expression per fumum ("through smoke") for the aromas of incense, burnt herbs and other aromatics that were offered on the altars of the gods.
