It was the name of a tribe of Germanic origin that inhabited the eastern region of Germany in present-day Worms (Rhineland-Palaqtinate). It was called that to its people and its territory. It also covered part of Switzerland, Italy and France. It was also the name of a law that established a division of goods and territories between them and the Romans in a federated manner. Kingdom of the Burgundians . The word burgundia over time was transformed into Burgundy. Although they were peaceful, at some point in history they snatched Mainz from the Romans.
