Etymologically it means that it has a sack or bag, which has a sack. It was one of the common names given to the extinct Tasmanian wolf, Tasmanian tiger, tilacin or marsupial wolf. Its scientific name is Thylacinus cynocephalus. He is believed to have disappeared around 1936. Castellanization of the term Thylacinus, which is the genus name of these marsupial animals and which belonged to the family Thylacinidae. .
