Its name comes from the French geologist Déotat Gratet de Dolomieu ( 1750-1801). the AB prefix comes from the Strutz classification that is class 5. Ab. 10 . A mineral that Dolomieu found first in buildings of ancient Rome (and perhaps hence this name) and then in mountains that are now called Dolomite Alps.
