It is a generic way to call a great variety of cereals that mostly has uses such as cattle fodder and in some cases specific to human food. They belong to a wide variety of genera but are all grasses (family Poaceae). The most frequently cultivated genera are Pennisetum, Setaria, Panicum, Eleusine. The tef and sorghum, which are also for human consumption, belong to the millet and are of the genera Eragrostis and Sorghum. Millet is a widely consumed cereal in Asia and Africa. In Colombia millet is also a way of calling the wife to her husband (it is synonymous with affection or dear). Apocope of my son.
