SPONTANEOUS GENERATION (and not GENERASION SPONTANEA , which horror ) Outdated hypothesis of the origin of life that held that certain forms of life (animal and vegetable) emerged simply from organic matter, inorganic or from a combination of these. It was never obtained by scientific method, but it was reached that conclusion by visual evidence. It was a belief deeply rooted since antiquity, as it was described by Aristotle, then supported and admitted by 17th and 18th century thinkers such as René Descartes, Francis Bacon or Isaac Newton.
