Political and economic doctrine attributed to James Monroe, the fifth Uspresident, although the true architect was the sixth, John Quincy Adams; doctrine summarized in the expression : America for Americans . It was contrary to the European colonialism of the time (first half of the 19th century) and not so much favorable to the emancipation of the South American countries from the Spanish empire. I have always interpreted it and I continue to do it as a warning: European, calm in your house, this is our farmhouse!
