In Colombia it is one of the common names of an ornamental shrub. It is also known as poppy, hibiscus, San Joaquin, China Rose, cucarda. In other countries it is known with other very different names, in Mexico for example they call it Flower of Jamaica and in Philippines gumamela or tacorangan . The scientific name is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and belongs to the family Malvaceae.
