Family of dicotyledonous plants with more than 30 genera and 300 species, in which stands out the dondiego that Linnaeus called mirabilis, beautiful, admirable, wonder; not only for its beautiful colors but for the characteristic of opening its flowers at night, to which also alludes to the Greek etymology of nyks nyktos, night. This nictaginaceae is what Gregorio Méndel used in his experiments in the convent garden to formulate his laws of inheritance.
