Lunfardo uses as of poor quality, berreta, that is not worth what I should be. The origin is in the pure-blooded Spanish pedurro ("ludicrous, presumptuous") mixed with fart, to make it more unpleasant. A possible etymology is a disparaging (gemstone), when it was false but it is displayed as authentic. It is also someone who is fart. See pedorrear.
