Aryl or best aril, in Botany. It is the fleshy coverage of some seeds from fruits of coniferous plants, especially the families Taxaceae and Cephalotaxaceae. The best example is the European yew (Taxus baccata). In organic chemistry is a functional group derived from aromatic hydrocarbons.
