galdear
  27

I do not know another meaning of "galdear" but I confirm that since I was a child I hear it here (Cuba); that is, which is true. I've also heard gardear. I want to add something: its origin must be in "guard" of the English escort, defend, etc. , widely used in basketball. In Cuba we also use it colloquially those of my generation to insinuate to watch someone. I am convinced that if we try to know the origin of a word, it becomes easier for us to discover other corruptions of languages used in Spanish by toos nojotro. I give an example and I'm leaving: in certain parts of the countryside in the province of Villa Clara, Cuba, they say tap to grapefruit; probably by "grapefruit" (greifru, more or less its pronunciation).
