Plurality of hummingbirds . Etymology : From quechua kindi or quinde, zootoponymic prefix meaning hummingbird and from Latin ius or Hispanic ium in the suffix ío denoting quantity . It is thus a mixed or hybrid voice of the Spanish conquistadors to name a region of Colombia in the former governorate of Popayan with abundance and varity of hummingbirds.
