Meaning of aspirina

This is the trade name that Bayer Laboratories has given to AAS or Acetyl-Salicylic Acid. It is a salicylate, or a substance that is used to stop the production of certain natural substances that cause fever, pain, inflammation, and blood clots. It is obtained from willows, plants of the genus Salix (family Salicaceae). It was the first NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) to be marketed.

Aspirin® is the trade name (now a generic name) for an analgesic and antipyretic drug composed of AAS (acetylsalicylic acid), created by the pharmaceutical company Bayer in 1899. The original German Aspirin appears to be a combination of 'acetyl' 'Spiraea ulmaria' (plant from which the active ingredient is extracted) the suffix -ina.
