It is one of the common names given to a medium-sized bird of prey in the family Falconidae. Its scientific name is Phalcoboenus carunculatus. It is also known as matamico parameño , carancho , matamico carunculado , caracara paramuno , caraca curiquingue and carancho carunculado . It was one of the sacred birds of the Incas.
