It is one of the common names of a beautiful palm tree of the Amazon basin. Its scientific name is Phytelephas microcarpa and belongs to the family Arecaceae. You also have other common names: tagua Palm ivory, anta, black head, cuca, chapi. Much used to make handicrafts. In Ecuador it is used as a woman's name and is the name of a group of traditional Andean music.
