It was also known as Vindemiator, Vindemitor and Provindemiator, by the Romans, the Arabs called it Almuredín and Alaraph. Other names it has received are Protrigetrix , Epsilon Virginis , Epsilon Vir or 47 Virginis . Its appearance in the firmament was an indicator of starting the harvest of the vine.
