tracheostomy is incorrectly written, and should be written as "tracheotomy" being its meaning: Surgery to create an opening in the trachea through the neck in which is inserted a tube or cannula so that this opening is not closed and facilitate breathing. This procedure is used when there is any impediment in the throat that prevents normal breathing. It has its risks but normally there are no major consequences. The word, like much of the medical terms, has Greek origin, tracheias tracheia: rough artery and took tomes: incision, opening a wound.
