It is a tree of pods, edible fruits ( Legume ). Very refreshing, pleasing and acidic juices are prepared. Its scientific name is Tamarindus indica ( formerly Diallium sp. ) It belongs to the Fabaceae family and the subfamily Caesalpinaceae. There is also a very nice bicoloured flowers shrub also called Tamarindo, Tamaris or jam, its scientific name is Streptosolen jamesonii and belongs to the Solanaceae family. It is native to Colombia and Ecuador. It is used to encourage the birds.
