It is another way of writing the name of the Greek poet Sappho of Lesvos, almost a transliteration of the original 931; 945; 960; 966; 969; ( Sapphous ) .

Name of a Greek poet of the Archaic period. He was also known as Sappho, Sappho of Methylene or Sappho of Lesvos. It was catalysed by Plato as "The Tenth Muse".
