It is a musical genre of many variants that appeared in the mid-twentieth century with a strong rhythmic base and the use of electric instruments. Heir to rhythm and blues, it was known from the beginning as rock and roll ("shake and roll", used in nautical), which was a recurring phrase in its lyrics and had a sexual meaning, which was lost over the years and today only refers to the music remembering the movements of the dance, not even those of a boat in the waves.
