It is the castilianization of the word Psittaciformes. Meaning that they have form of parrots, which resemble parrots (Greek Psittakos's parrot). It is the name of an order of birds typical shaped by parrots, macaws and cockatoos. This order is subdivided into three superfamilies: Psittacoidea (typical or parrots parrots), Cacatuoidea (cockatoos) and Strigopoidea (New Zealand parrots).
