Meaning of proximo pasado

La expresión próximo pasado se usa para referirse al día, semana, mes o año mencionado inmediatamente anterior; el año próximo pasado es el último que hubo antes de éste. The closest translation I would use could be "last week/month, year, etc" Would not use "near past", as this expression is too broad, vague. Saying "last week /month, etc." is probably the closest translation; although the "tone" is not there.
