It is the name of a genus of birds belonging to the family Rallidae. They are known as gallinettes, calamones. Water cocks, tongues, gallaretas. It is characteristic as a great colonizer of very distant islands, so they are found almost all over the world. It was a Greek male name in ancient times and means purple ( color). In Spanish it is equivalent to Porfirio.
