plebiscite . ( Of the lat. )( plebiscitum ). 1. m. resolution taken by an entire people to plurality of votes. 2. m. consultation to the public authorities submitted to popular vote directly for approve or reject a particular proposal on sovereignty, citizenship, exceptional powers, etc. 3. m. law that the Plebs of Rome established separately from the upper classes of the Republic, on the proposal of the Tribune. For some time it required only to plebeians, and then it was compulsory for all the people.
