It is a word of Nahuatl origin ( comes from pinacatl), which means black beetle. It is a way of calling in Mexico the black beetles of the genus Eleodes and belonging to the family Tenebrionidae . Black cuckoo. It is also the name of a desert, which is once part of the Great Desert of Sonora or Altar Desert and a volcanic sierra in the State of Sonora in Mexico. It is also the name of a Mexican Biological Reserve in that same area.
