It is also correct to use Picunche or Pikumche. It is a term used in Chile, especially in Sociology and Anthropology, to refer to ancient pre-Columbian aboriginal peoples who spoke the Mapudungun (Mapuche) language. It means people or person from the north ("pikum": north, "che" : person). They lived in central Chile, between the Aconcagua and Bio-Bio rivers. It is also the name of a bird. It has yellow spots on the wings. Mapuche Indians of La Araucanía.
