pyrethrum . ( Of the prov. and cat. )( pyrethrum ). 1. m. herbaceous annual plant of the family of the Compositae, with stems bent, decimetres three of length, items in very narrow lacinias leaves; Terminal flowers with yellow Centre and circumference white on top and red on the underside, and following almost cylindrical, two to three decimetres of long and an inch thick, Brown on the outside, whitish inside, very strong saline taste and that has been used in medicine as a masticatorio to cause salivation. The root, reduced to dust, used as insecticide. It is typical of North Africa plant and is cultivated in gardens. 2. m. root of this plant.
