Untimely interruption of speech due to closure of the glottis. It may be due to severe vocal cord conditions or by disruption of airflow in the vocal tract (which is used in some languages). It may also be called glottal pause or glottal occlusive. It usually has a special symbolic representation for purposes of correct pronunciation.
