It is a type of housing that is built on a platform supported by stilts, stakes or stilts. Housing that is built on bodies of water (rivers, lakes, swamps, sea). In Colombia there are many parts (San Marín de Pajarales, La Mojana , Puerto America , Santa Cruz del Islote , many more parts). They usually provide a very precarious way of life to their inhabitants.

It is a hut (which today can be any house) built on stilts in the middle of the water (river, lake). The name comes from the Italian palafitta, which has its origin in the Latin vulgar palum ( "stick, stake" ) fictum ( "nailed" ).
