It means that it comes from Oxal or Oxalis (Greek name of a genus of plants of the family Oxalidaceae, which are known as sorrel, nacederas, geese or vinegars). Concerning oxalis or geese . Name of an organic acid, also known as ethanodioic acid. It is used for polishing floors. Its formula is HOOC-COOH.
