Although "obscurity" is the closest spelling to etymology, today the simplified "obscurity" is the majority and preferable, and it comes to mean the following: 1 . Lack of light to perceive things. 2 . Place with no light, or very little light. 3 . Lack of light and knowledge in the intellectual or spiritual faculties. 4 . Lack of clarity in what is written or spoken. 5 . Lack of news about an event or its causes and circumstances. 6 . Humility, lowliness in social condition, although it is in disuse.
