1º_ It is a Nahuatl word for water with lime that is used to boil corn before grinding. It is formed by the voices nextli ("ash") ayotl ("liquid"). 2º_ Arroyo in the State of Colima, Mexico.

It is a popular way or vulgarism to refer to nejayote. It is the name that receives a highly polluting waste water, as it is very corrosive, in addition to its high solids content and suspended organic matter. It has high parameters in pH (more than 11 ) and high calcium salts. It's essentially bleach or ash water. The word is of Nahuatl origin. Residual water from the nixtamalization or alkaline soaking process prior to the cooking of corn, which is done by adding lime or ash, to remove the parchment from the grain, transparent or bran outer skin.
