It is an extinct species of the Homo genus that inhabited Europe and parts of Western Asia from ago 230 000 28 000 years ago, during the middle and upper Pleistocene and culturally integrated in the Middle Paleolithic. In a period of approximately 5 000 years believed lived in parallel in the same European territories with the man of Cro-Magnon, early modern humans in Europe. This coexistence has demonstrated by fossils found in the caves of Châtelperron.
