MINICOMPUTERS pl . of MINICOMPUTER, computer of an intermediate size, between a traditional computer and a microcomputer. It is not related to the power of the CPU, but to the type of processor. Thus, microcomputers are named for the appearance in the 70s of microprocessors, which when they had an input keyboard and a screen were called microcomputers or coordinators. The minicomputers have an average power with respect to the state-of-the-arts of the moment, because they are very powerful if compared to megacomputers of previous generations. They have the characteristic of being able to work in isolation or connected to a central computer.
