In anatomy, it is the name of a membrane that attaches the colon to the abdominal wall.

In medicine it is a membrane lined with peritoneum that joins and fixes the colon to the back wall of the abdomen. Place of passage of vessels and nerves for the colon (same as the mesentery). There are two parts or sections, called mesocolon: transverse mesocolon (middle part of the large intestine) and sigmoid mesocolon or pelvic ilio (final part of the large intestine).
