Meaning of meltemi

Danilo Enrique Noreña Benítez

meltemi
  42

It can translate bad weather or temporary. It is the name given in Greece to the winds that come from the North of the Aegean Sea. Previously it was also called Etesio or Meltem. They are dangerous in summer times, as they promote the spread of forest fires.

Felipe Lorenzo del Río

Dry Greek wind from the north in the Aegean Sea during the summer, which the ancients called Etesio. The Turks laman it meltem, name surely derived from the Italian mal tempo, because although it refreshes something it is dangerous and makes navigation difficult.
